Account and sign-in
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works without one. An account keeps your points, stamps, reviews, saved places, trips and profile, so they come back when you sign in on another phone.
How do I create an account or sign in?
Go to Profile › Settings › Account › Sign in. Choose Create account and enter your email and a password. We send a code to your email; enter it in the app to confirm your address. On iPhone you can also use Sign in with Apple. On Android, use email and password.
The email has a link instead of a code
Tap the link. The page it opens may show an error, but your address is still confirmed. Then return to the app and sign in.
I did not get the email
Check your spam folder. You can ask for a new code after 60 seconds with Resend code.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password?, enter your email, then enter the code from the email and choose a new password.
I used “Hide My Email” with Apple
That works. The app then shows “Your Apple ID (email hidden)”, and our emails go to your Apple relay address, which forwards them to you.
Deleting your account or data
In the app: in the Profile tab, tap Account, then Delete my account, and confirm. This deletes the account and everything in it right away. To clear your data but keep the account, use Profile › Settings › Your data › Delete all my data. Without the app, see the account deletion page.
Using the app offline
What works without internet?
The guide itself: places, walking routes, tips, public transport information, your saved places, your plans and making a new plan. City photos on the home screen are built in. Place photos, the exchange rate, the weather forecast and the Italian strike calendar show from the last copy saved on your phone. To put all of a city’s photos on your phone before you go, use Backpack › Use without internet.
What needs internet?
Place photos that are not on your phone yet (loaded from Wikipedia), current exchange rates, the weather forecast, the Italian strike calendar, signing in and syncing your account, and opening directions or live times in a maps app. Changes you make offline are saved on your phone and go to your account the next time you are online and signed in.
Other questions
Why does the app ask for my location?
For “What’s near me?”, guided walks (to show places around you and read a stop aloud when you reach it), public transport directions from where you are, and the Backpack tools that find the nearest toilet, drinking water, luggage storage or pharmacy or share your location. It is used only while the app is open and never sent to us. It leaves your phone only in the map link you open from the Backpack or the location you choose to share. You can turn it off in your phone’s settings; the rest of the app keeps working. Details are in the privacy policy.
Can other people see my reviews?
No. Your ratings and reviews are private to you.
How do I change the language?
Profile › Settings › Language. The app is available in English, Turkish, German and Spanish.
Is the information up to date?
Places, prices and opening hours were researched from public sources and each item is dated. Things change, so check important details before you go, and tell us when something is wrong.
